盆 — pén

1. basin; large bowl used for holding water or washing

   把衣服放在盆里洗。 bǎ yīfú fàngzài pén lǐ xǐ — Put the clothes in the basin to wash.

2. flower pot; planter used for growing plants

   他在阳台上摆了几个花盆。 tā zài yángtái shàng bǎi le jǐgè huāpén — He placed several flower pots on the balcony.

3. traditional unit of volume (equal to 12 dou and 8 sheng, approx. 128 liters)

   古书上记载这只大缸能装五盆粮食。 gǔshū shàng jìzǎi zhè zhǐ dàgāng néng zhuāng wǔ pén liángshí — Old books record that this large vat could hold five pén of grain.
