瘦 — shòu

1. thin (of a person or thing)

   他最近瘦了很多。 tā zuìjìn shòu le hěnduō — He has lost a lot of weight recently.

2. to lose weight

   她在健身房锻炼想瘦下来。 tā zài jiànshēnfáng duànliàn xiǎng shòuxiàlái — She's working out at the gym to slim down.

3. tight (of clothing)

   这件衬衫有点瘦，不太舒服。 zhèjiàn chènshān yǒudiǎn shòu bù tài shūfú — This shirt is a bit tight and not very comfortable.

4. lean (of meat)

   请给我瘦一点的牛肉片。 qǐng gěi wǒ shòu yìdiǎn de niúròu piàn — Please give me thinner/leaner slices of beef.

5. unproductive (of land); barren; poor (soil)

   那片土地很瘦，不适合种粮食。 nà piàn tǔdì hěnshòu búshì hé zhǒng liángshí — That plot of land is poor and not suitable for growing grain.
