1. to recuperate; to convalesce; to rest and recover health

   他出院后去乡下疗养了两个月才回城。 tā chūyuàn hòuqù xiāngxià liáoyǎng le liǎnggè yuè cái huíchéng — After leaving the hospital he went to the countryside to recuperate for two months before returning to the city.

2. convalescence; a period or place of recuperation (e.g., a sanatorium or rest cure)

   他在疗养期间，医生建议他多休息并做适量的运动。 tā zài liáoyǎng qījiān yīshēng jiànyì tā duō xiūxī bìng zuò shìliàng de yùndòng — During his convalescence the doctor advised him to rest more and do moderate exercise.
