疏导 — shūdǎo

1. to dredge; to clear or open up a path (literally removing obstructions)

   工人们正在疏导河道，清除淤泥和杂物。 gōngrén men zhèngzài shūdǎo hédào qīngchú yūní hé záwù — The workers are dredging the river channel, removing silt and debris.

2. to guide or smooth over (problems, emotions); to enlighten; to conduct persuasion or counselling

   学校安排心理老师对遇到困难的学生进行疏导。 xuéxiào ānpái xīnlǐ lǎoshī duì yùdàokùnnán de xuéshēng jìnxíng shūdǎo — The school arranged for the counselor to guide students who have difficulties.
