生怕 — shēngpà

1. to be very afraid; extremely nervous; to fear (that ...)

   他生怕孩子出门会被雨淋，就给他准备了一件雨衣。 tā shēngpà háizi chūmén huì bèi yǔlín jiù gěi tā zhǔnbèi le yījiàn yǔyī — He was so afraid his child would get rained on that he prepared a raincoat for him.

2. (conjunction) for fear that; so as not to; lest

   他生怕迟到，就早早出门了。 tā shēngpà chídào jiù zǎozǎo chūmén le — For fear of being late, he left early.
