琢磨 — zuómo

1. to ponder; to mull over; to think over carefully (Taiwan pr. [zhuo2 mo2])

   这件事我还要琢磨一下，明天再给你答复。 zhèjiàn shì wǒ háiyào zhuómó yīxià míngtiān zài gěi nǐ dáfù — I need to think this over; I'll give you an answer tomorrow.

琢磨 — zhuómó

1. to carve and polish (jade); to work (material) to a fine finish

   老匠人在桌子上琢磨着那块玉石，动作熟练。 lǎo jiàngrén zài zhuōzi shàng zhuómó zhe nàkuài yùshí dòngzuò shúliàn — The old craftsman was carving and polishing that piece of jade on the table, his movements skilled.

2. to polish and refine (a literary or artistic work)

   作者不停地琢磨那一章的结构，直到满意为止。 zuòzhě bùtíng dì zhuómó nà yīzhāng de jiégòu zhídào mǎnyì wéizhǐ — The author kept revising and refining the structure of that chapter until satisfied.
