现实 — xiànshí

1. reality; the actual state of things

   我们要面对现实，想办法解决问题。 wǒmen yào miànduìxiànshí xiǎng bànfǎ jiějuéwèntí — We must face reality and find ways to solve the problem.

2. real; actual; realistic; pragmatic

   他的计划很现实，考虑到了所有限制。 tā de jìhuà hěn xiànshí kǎolǜ dào le suǒyǒu xiànzhì — His plan is realistic; it takes all the constraints into account.

3. materialistic; self-interested (pejorative)

   他太现实，只关心钱和利益。 tā tài xiànshí zhǐ guānxīn qián hé lìyì — He's too materialistic; he only cares about money and benefits.
