   他身穿玄色长袍，在夜色中几乎看不见。 tā shēnchuān xuán sè chángpáo zài yèsè zhōng jīhū kànbújiàn — He wore a dark black robe and was almost invisible in the night.

2. mysterious; profound; abstruse

   这本书的思想颇为玄奥，一般读者难以完全理解。 zhè běnshū de sīxiǎng pǒwèi xuánào yìbān dúzhě nányǐ wánquán lǐjiě — The ideas in this book are rather abstruse; ordinary readers find them hard to fully grasp.
