猜想 — cāixiǎng

1. to guess; to conjecture; to suppose

   我只能猜想他迟到了因为交通堵塞。 wǒ zhǐnéng cāixiǎng tā chídào le yīnwèi jiāotōngdǔsè — I can only guess that he was late because of a traffic jam.

2. (math.) hypothesis; conjecture

   这个猜想在数学界尚未被证明。 zhège cāixiǎng zài shùxuéjiè shàng wèibèizhèngmíng — This conjecture has not yet been proven in the mathematical community.
