熄火 — xīhuǒ

1. to go out; to put out (a fire, lamp); (fig.) to die down

   房间里的灯熄火了，我们得开另一盏。 fángjiān lǐ de dēng xīhuǒ le wǒmen dé kāi lìng yīzhǎn — The light in the room went out; we need to turn on another one.

2. (of a vehicle) to stall (engine stops running)

   他开车在上坡时熄火了，不得不推着下坡。 tā kāichē zài shàngpō shí xīhuǒ le bùdé bù tuīzhe xiàpō — His car stalled going uphill, so he had to push it downhill.
