1. quick; alert

   他反应很灵，马上就解决了问题。 tā fǎnyìng hěn líng mǎshàng jiù jiějué le wèntí — He is very quick to react and solved the problem immediately.

2. efficacious; effective

   这药很灵，对头疼很有效。 zhè yào hěn líng duì tóuténg hěn yǒuxiào — This medicine is effective; it works well for headaches.

3. to come true (of a wish or prediction)

   他说的话都灵验，后来都灵了。 tā shuō dehuà dōu língyàn hòulái dōulíng le — What he said proved true; later it all came true.

4. spirit; departed soul

   他们去寺庙为先人的灵祈福。 tāmen qù sìmiào wèi xiānrén de líng qífú — They went to the temple to pray for their ancestors' spirits.

5. coffin
