混 — hùn

1. to mix; to mingle

   把所有材料混在一起搅拌均匀。 bǎ suǒyǒu cáiliào hùn zài yìqǐ jiǎobàn jūnyún — Mix all the ingredients together and stir evenly.

2. to drift along; to muddle along (do just enough to get by)

   他没目标，只是在生活中混日子。 tā méi mùbiāo zhǐshì zàishēnghuózhōng hùnrìzi — He has no goals; he's just muddling through life.

3. to pass for; to get along with someone; to mingle successfully

   他外表普通，但在公司很会混，人缘很好。 tā wàibiǎo pǔtōng dàn zài gōngsī hěn huì hùn rényuán hěn hǎo — He looks ordinary, but he gets along well at the company and is well-liked.

4. muddled; thoughtless; reckless

   他开车太混，差点发生事故。 tā kāichē tài hùn chàdiǎn fāshēng shìgù — He drove too recklessly and almost caused an accident.

混 — hún

1. muddy; turbid (variant of 渾/浑)

   河水被工地污染，变得很混。 héshuǐ bèi gōngdì wūrǎn biàndé hěn hùn — The river was polluted by the construction site and became very muddy.

2. brainless; foolish (variant of 渾/浑)

   别做那么混的决定，想清楚再说。 bié zuò nàme hùn de juédìng xiǎng qīngchǔ zàishuō — Don't make such a foolish decision; think it through before speaking.
