消遣 — xiāoqiǎn

1. amusement; pastime; recreation

   他周末的消遣是钓鱼。 tā zhōumò de xiāoqiǎn shì diàoyú — His weekend pastime is fishing.

2. to while (one's) time away; to kill time

   他喜欢看电影来消遣时间。 tā xǐhuān kàn diànyǐng lái xiāoqiǎn shíjiān — He likes to watch movies to while away the time.

3. to make sport of; to treat (someone/something) as a source of amusement

   他总是拿别人的错误当消遣，这很不礼貌。 tā zǒngshì ná biérén de cuòwù dāng xiāoqiǎn zhè hěn bùlǐmào — He always makes sport of other people's mistakes; it's very rude.
