1. tributary; branch of a river

   这条大河分成几条派，流向不同的地方。 zhètiáo dàhé fēnchéng jǐtiáo pài liúxiàng bùtóng de dìfāng — This great river splits into several branches flowing in different directions.

2. clique; faction; school; group; sect

   公司里有不同的派，决策因此常常有分歧。 gōngsī lǐ yǒu bùtóng de pài juécè yīncǐ chángcháng yǒu fēnqí — There are different factions in the company, so decisions often differ.

3. school or tradition (of thought, art, teaching)

   他师从某个著名的绘画派，风格很明显。 tā shīcóng mǒugè zhùmíng de huìhuà pài fēnggé hěn míngxiǎn — He studied under a famous painting school; his style is distinctive.

4. to send; to dispatch; to assign; to appoint (someone)

   公司派了三名工程师去处理这个项目。 gōngsī pài le sānmíng gōngchéngshī qù chùlǐ zhège xiàngmù — The company sent three engineers to handle the project.

5. classifier for factions, groups, schools, or parties

   他属于保守派的一员。 tā shǔyú bǎoshǒupài de yīyuán — He belongs to the conservative faction.

6. used with 一 as a classifier to characterize a scene, atmosphere, demeanor, sound, remark etc. (e.g. 一派宁静)

   冬日清晨，公园里一派寂静。 dōngrì qīngchén gōngyuán lǐ yīpài jìjìng — On a winter morning the park was utterly quiet.

7. loanword: pi (Greek letter π) or the mathematical constant π ≈ 3.14159…

   圆周率通常用希腊字母派表示，约等于3.14159。 yuánzhōulǜ tōngcháng yòng xīlàzìmǔ pài biǎoshì yuēděngyú 3 1 4 1 5 9 — The circle constant is usually denoted by the Greek letter pi, about 3.14159.
