泻 — xiè

1. to flow out swiftly; to flood; (of water) to gush

   大雨过后，河水猛然泻出，冲毁了堤坝。 dàyǔ guòhòu héshuǐ měngrán xièchū chōnghuǐ le dībà — After the heavy rain, the river suddenly gushed out and destroyed the dike.

2. diarrhea (short for 腹泻)

   他吃错东西，昨晚开始一直在泻。 tā chīcuò dōngxī zuówǎn kāishǐ yìzhí zài xiè — He ate something bad and started having diarrhea last night.

3. laxative; purgative (as in 泻药)

   医生给他开了点泻药来缓解便秘。 yīshēng gěi tā kāi le diǎn xièyào lái huǎnjiě biànmì — The doctor prescribed a laxative to relieve his constipation.
