1. to overflow; to flood (physically)

   那场暴雨把河水冲得泛滥，很多田地都被淹了。 nàchǎng bàoyǔ bǎ héshuǐ chōng dé fànlàn hěnduō tiándì dōu bèiyān le — The heavy rain caused the river to overflow; many fields were flooded.

2. (fig.) to proliferate unchecked; to run rampant

   假新闻在网络上泛滥，真假难辨。 jiǎxīnwén zài wǎngluò shàng fànlàn zhēnjiǎnánbiàn — Fake news is proliferating online and it's hard to tell true from false.
