气息 — qìxī

1. breath; the air expelled when breathing

   他说话的时候能听到他的气息。 tā shuōhuà de shíhòu néng tīngdào tā de qìxī — You can hear his breath when he speaks.

2. smell; odor; scent (often of something present or lingering)

   房间里有一种霉味的气息。 fángjiān lǐ yǒu yīzhǒng méiwèi de qìxī — There's a musty smell in the room.

3. atmosphere; hint or trace (figurative) — e.g. atmosphere of an era or a flavor/impression

   这篇文章带有一种时代的气息。 zhè piānwénzhāng dàiyǒu yīzhǒng shídài de qìxī — This article carries an atmosphere of the era.
