1. pace; tempo (of change, development, work)

   在改革的步伐加快的背景下，许多企业都在调整战略。 zài gǎigé de bùfá jiākuài de bèijǐng xià xǔduō qǐyè dōu zài tiáozhěng zhànlüè — Against the backdrop of accelerating reform, many companies are adjusting their strategies.

2. (measured) step; stride (the way someone walks)

   他走路的步伐很轻快，看起来很有精神。 tā zǒulù de bùfá hěn qīngkuài kànqǐlái hěn yǒu jīngshén — His stride is light and brisk; he looks energetic.

3. march; marching step (usually of troops)
