正 — zhèng

1. straight; upright; honest; morally correct

   我爸爸说做人要正。 wǒ bàba shuō zuòrén yào zhèng — My dad says a person should be upright.

2. proper; correct; appropriate

   请按正当程序处理这个问题。 qǐng àn zhèngdāngchéngxù chǔlǐ zhège wèntí — Please handle this matter through proper procedures.

3. main; principal

   这是公司的正职岗位。 zhè shì gōngsī de zhèngzhí gǎngwèi — This is the company's main (formal) position.

4. to correct; to rectify

   老师帮我把作文里的错误正过来。 lǎoshī bāng wǒ bǎ zuòwén lǐ de cuòwù zhèng guòlái — The teacher helped correct the mistakes in my composition.

5. exactly; just (at that time); right (in that place)

   他正坐在门口等你。 tā zhèng zuòzài ménkǒu děng nǐ — He is exactly sitting at the door waiting for you.

6. (math.) positive (number)

   这个数是正的，所以没有负值。 zhège shù shì zhèng de suǒyǐ méiyǒu fùzhí — This number is positive, so there are no negative values.

1. first month of the lunar year (the lunar New Year month)

   我们在正月里放鞭炮庆祝。 wǒmen zài zhēngyuè lǐ fàngbiānpào qìngzhù — We set off firecrackers to celebrate in the first lunar month.
