1. incoming telephone call

   我有一通来电，要不要接？ wǒ yǒu yítòng láidiàn yào bùyào jiē — I have an incoming call—should I answer?

2. to phone in; to call by telephone

   你可以来电确认预约时间吗？ nǐ kěyǐ láidiàn quèrèn yùyuē shíjiān ma — Can you call to confirm the appointment time?

3. to send in a telegram (old usage)

   过去人们常用来电通知远方的亲友。 guòqù rénmen chángyòng láidiàn tōngzhī yuǎnfāng de qīnyǒu — In the past people often used telegrams to notify relatives far away.

4. to have an instant attraction to someone; to feel chemistry at first sight

   他见到她的第一眼就来电了。 tā jiàndào tā de dìyīyǎn jiù láidiàn le — He felt an instant attraction to her at first sight.

5. (of electricity, after an outage) to come back; power restoration

   停电了十分钟，后来又来电了。 tíngdiàn le shífēnzhōng hòulái yòu láidiàn le — The power was out for ten minutes, then the electricity came back.
