末 — mò

1. tip; end; extremity (of an object)

   绳子的末端打了一个结。 shéngzi de mòduān dǎ le yígè jié — The end of the rope has a knot tied on it.

2. end; final stage; latter part (of a period or process)

   明朝末年战乱不断。 míngcháo mònián zhànluàn bùduàn — In the final years of the Ming dynasty there was constant warfare.

3. insignificant detail; triviality (used to dismiss something as unimportant)

   做事要抓住根本，别舍本逐末。 zuòshì yào zhuāzhù gēnběn bié shěběnzhúmò — In doing things grasp the essential, don't pursue the trivial.

4. powder; dust; pulverized particles

   他把药磨成了细末。 tā bǎ yào móchéng le xì mò — He ground the medicine into fine powder.

5. role of an old man in Chinese opera (末角)

   他在京剧里演末角。 tā zài jīngjù lǐ yǎn mò jiǎo — He performs the old-man role in Peking opera.
