   中秋夜的望很美。 zhōng qiūyè de wàng hěnměi — The full moon on Mid‑Autumn Night is beautiful.

2. to hope; to expect

   我望你能理解我的决定。 wǒ wàng nǐ néng lǐjiě wǒ de juédìng — I hope you can understand my decision.

3. to visit (someone)

   周末我去望望老人家。 zhōumò wǒ qù wàngwàng lǎorénjiā — I'll go visit the elderly this weekend.

4. to gaze; to look into the distance; to look towards

   他站在桥上望着河流发呆。 tā zhàn zài qiáoshàng wàng zhe héliú fādāi — He stood on the bridge staring at the river.

5. towards (in the direction of)

   他望城市的西边走去。 tā wàng chéngshì de xībiān zǒuqù — He walked toward the west side of the city.
