1. to replace; to substitute (e.g. replace a damaged component, substitute an injured player)

   教练把受伤的球员替补下场。 jiàoliàn bǎ shòushāng de qiúyuán tìbǔ xiàchǎng — The coach substituted the injured player.

2. a substitute; a replacement (person who takes someone else's place)

   他是球队的替补。 tā shì qiúduì de tìbǔ — He is the team's substitute.
