1. vague; ambiguous; equivocal (not clear or definite, open to more than one interpretation)

   他对我的提问回答得很暧昧，我不确定他的意思。 tā duì wǒ de tíwèn huídá dé hěn àimèi wǒ bù quèdìng tā de yìsi — He answered my question very ambiguously; I'm not sure what he meant.

2. dubious; shady; suggestive of an improper or morally questionable relationship or behaviour

   两人关系暧昧，公司里有人开始议论他们是否有私情。 liǎng rén guānxìàimèi gōngsī lǐ yǒurén kāishǐ yìlùn tāmen shìfǒu yǒu sīqíng — The two have a dubious/ambiguous relationship; people at the company started gossiping about whether they have an affair.
