昼夜 — zhòuyè

1. day and night (the two parts of a 24-hour cycle)

   昼夜交替，气温也随之变化。 zhòuyè jiāotì qìwēn yě suízhī biànhuà — Day and night alternate, and the temperature changes accordingly.

2. a 24-hour period; one day

   工程队连续工作了一个昼夜才完成任务。 gōngchéngduì liánxù gōngzuò le yígè zhòuyè cái wánchéng rènwù — The construction crew worked for a whole day (24 hours) to finish the task.

3. continuously; without stopping (through day and night)

   救援人员昼夜奋战，终于找到了失踪者。 jiùyuán rényuán zhòuyè fènzhàn zhōngyú zhǎodào le shīzōngzhě — Rescue workers fought on day and night and finally found the missing person.
