1. perfunctory; done in a superficial or half‑hearted way

   他的工作敷衍，常常只是应付了事。 tā de gōngzuò fūyǎn chángcháng zhǐshì yìngfù liǎoshì — His work is perfunctory; he often just gets things done to get by.

2. to elaborate on; to expound (literary/classical usage)

   那位学者在讲座中敷衍古代典籍的含义。 nàwèi xuézhě zài jiǎngzuò zhōng fūyǎn gǔdài diǎnjí de hányì — The scholar expounded on the meanings of the ancient classics in the lecture.
