整 — zhěng

1. whole; complete; entire (bound form)

   整个城市都停电了。 zhěnggè chéngshì dōu tíngdiàn le — The entire city lost power.

2. exactly; exactly (used before or after a number + measure word)

   这本书整三百页，不多不少。 zhè běnshū zhěng sānbǎi yè bùduōbùshǎo — This book is exactly three hundred pages, no more, no less.

3. to put in order; to straighten; to tidy; to make neat (bound form)

   请把桌子上的文件整一整。 qǐng bǎ zhuōzi shàng de wénjiàn zhěngyīzhěng — Please straighten the documents on the table.

4. to repair; to mend; to renovate (bound form)

   我们打算把旧房子整一下。 wǒmen dǎsuàn bǎ jiù fángzi zhěngyīxià — We plan to renovate the old house.

5. colloquial: to fix sb; to give sb a hard time; to mess with sb; to do something to (coll.)

   别整他，他只是开个玩笑。 bié zhěng tā tā zhǐshì kāi gè wánxiào — Don't mess with him; he's just joking.
