1. emergency relief; aid (money or goods) provided to the needy in an emergency

   地震发生后，政府迅速发放了救济。 dìzhèn fāshēng hòu zhèngfǔ xùnsù fāfàng le jiùjì — After the earthquake, the government quickly distributed relief.

2. to provide relief to the needy; to aid financially or with goods

   政府每年都会救济一些低收入家庭。 zhèngfǔ měinián dū huì jiùjì yīxiē dīshōurù jiātíng — The government provides relief to some low-income families every year.
