1. malfunction; breakdown (of a machine or system)

   昨天那台打印机发生了故障，打印不了。 zuótiān nà tái dǎyìnjī fāshēng le gùzhàng dǎyìn bùliǎo — The printer broke down yesterday and couldn't print.

2. defect; shortcoming (in design, plan, or mechanism)

   这项方案存在结构上的故障，需要重新设计。 zhèxiàng fāngàn cún zàijiégòushàng de gùzhàng xūyào chóngxīn shèjì — This plan has structural defects and needs to be redesigned.

3. error; bug (in software or electronic systems)

   程序出现了故障，开发人员正在排查和修复。 chéngxù chūxiàn le gùzhàng kāifārényuán zhèngzài páichá hé xiūfù — The program has a bug; developers are debugging and fixing it.
