放宽 — fàngkuān

1. to relax (a rule); to ease (restrictions); to loosen controls

   政府决定放宽入境限制。 zhèngfǔ juédìng fàngkuān rùjìng xiànzhì — The government decided to ease entry restrictions.

2. to extend (a time limit); to grant more leeway or allowance

   公司同意放宽申请截止日期两天。 gōngsī tóngyì fàngkuān shēnqǐng jiézhǐ rìqī liǎngtiān — The company agreed to extend the application deadline by two days.

3. to let out (a garment); to make (clothing) larger

   这件衣服太紧，裁缝可以把腰围放宽一些。 zhèjiàn yīfú tàijǐn cáiféng kěyǐ bǎ yāowéi fàngkuān yīxiē — This garment is too tight; the tailor can let out the waist a bit.
