放学 — fàngxué

1. to dismiss students at the end of the school day; school is over

   下午三点放学了，孩子们都高兴地跑出校门。 xiàwǔ sāndiǎn fàngxué le háizi men dōu gāoxìng dì pǎo chū xiàomén — School finished at 3 p.m.; the children happily ran out the school gate.

2. to finish classes for the day (used more generally of any course/session ending)

   今天我们下午只有一节课，四点就放学了。 jīntiān wǒmen xiàwǔ zhǐyǒu yījiékè sìdiǎn jiù fàngxué le — This afternoon we only have one class; we finish at 4 o'clock.
