2. to bribe; to buy off (someone)

   警方指控那位官员收买证人以掩盖事实。 jǐngfāng zhǐkòng nàwèi guānyuán shōumǎi zhèngrén yǐ yǎngài shìshí — The police accused the official of bribing witnesses to cover up the facts.
