摘 — zhāi

1. to pick; to pluck (flowers, fruit etc.)

   她在花园里摘了一些玫瑰。 tā zài huāyuánlǐ zhāi le yīxiē méiguī — She picked some roses in the garden.

2. to take off; to remove (glasses, hat, etc.)

   他摘下眼镜看了看病历。 tā zhāixià yǎnjìng kàn le kàn bìnglì — He took off his glasses and looked at the medical record.

3. to select; to pick out (from a group)

   老师从众多作品中摘出几篇优秀的文章。 lǎoshī cóng zhòngduō zuòpǐn zhōng zhāichū jǐpiān yōuxiù de wénzhāng — The teacher selected several excellent essays from the many works.

4. to borrow money at a time of urgent need (colloquial)

   他临时没钱，只好向朋友摘了几百块。 tā línshí méiqián zhǐhǎo xiàng péngyǒu zhāi le jǐbǎikuài — He was short of money, so he had to borrow a few hundred yuan from a friend.
