捐 — juān

1. to relinquish; to abandon (something, often rights or claims)

   他自愿捐出了自己在公司的职位。 tā zìyuàn juānchū le zìjǐ zài gōngsī de zhíwèi — He voluntarily gave up his position at the company.

2. to contribute; to donate (money, goods, blood, etc.)

   他每年都捐款给当地的慈善机构。 tā měinián dōu juānkuǎn gěi dāngdì de císhànjīgòu — He donates money to the local charity every year.

3. (bound form) tax; levy (used in compounds)

   新法律规定对奢侈品征收额外的捐税。 xīn fǎlǜ guīdìng duì shēchǐpǐn zhēngshōu éwài de juānshuì — The new law stipulates an extra levy on luxury goods.
