捂 — wǔ

1. to cover with the hand (one's eyes, nose or ears)

   妈妈捂住孩子的眼睛，不让他看到惊喜。 māmā wǔzhù háizi de yǎnjīng bùràng tā kàndào jīngxǐ — Mother covered the child's eyes with her hands so he wouldn't see the surprise.

2. to cover up (an affair, scandal); to hide (information)

   公司试图捂住这件事，不让媒体曝光。 gōngsī shìtú wǔzhù zhèjiàn shì bùràng méitǐ bàoguāng — The company tried to cover up the matter to prevent media exposure.

3. contrary; to contradict

   他用手捂住嘴，忍住了笑。 tāyòng shǒu wǔzhù zuǐ rěnzhù le xiào — He covered his mouth with his hand and held back a laugh.
