挥 — huī

1. to wave (one's hand); to brandish (an object)

   他挥手告别。 tā huīshǒugàobié — He waved goodbye.

2. to command; to direct; to wield authority (instruct)

   队长挥手示意大家出发。 duìzhǎng huīshǒu shìyì dàjiā chūfā — The captain signaled with a wave for everyone to set off.

3. to scatter; to disperse (objects, dust, etc.)

   他把桌上的灰尘一挥就散了。 tā bǎ zhuōshàng de huīchén yī huī jiù sàn le — He brushed the dust on the table away with a flick.
