1. to scratch (with nails, an itch, etc.)

   他挠了挠头，没找到词来解释自己的想法。 tā náo le náotóu méi zhǎodào cí lái jiěshì zìjǐ de xiǎngfǎ — He scratched his head, unable to find the words to explain his thoughts.

2. to thwart; to frustrate (plans, schemes)

   他想尽办法阻挠这项改革的推行。 tā xiǎngjǐnbànfǎ zǔnáo zhèxiàng gǎigé de tuīxíng — He did everything he could to obstruct the reform.

3. to yield; to give in (cede in an argument or dispute)

   经过长时间争论，他终于挠服并同意了对方的条件。 jīngguò zhǎngshíjiān zhēnglùn tā zhōngyú náo fú bìng tóngyì le duìfāng de tiáojiàn — After a long argument he finally gave in and accepted the other's terms.
