1. to point out; to indicate; to instruct (give orders)

   老板指示我明天完成报告。 lǎobǎn zhǐshì wǒ míngtiān wánchéng bàogào — The boss instructed me to finish the report tomorrow.

2. directive; instructions (orders, guidelines)

   我们收到了上级的指示，必须按时完成。 wǒmen shōudào le shàngjí de zhǐshì bìxū ànshí wánchéng — We received directives from higher-ups and must finish on time.
