拼 — pīn

1. to piece together; to put together

   他把旧照片拼成了一本相册。 tā bǎ jiù zhàopiān pīnchéng le yīběn xiàngcè — He put the old photos together into an album.

2. to pool (resources etc); to share

   大家拼钱给他办了个生日会。 dàjiā pīn qián gěi tā bàn le gè shēngrìhuì — Everyone pooled money to throw him a birthday party.

3. to risk all; to go all out; to try one's hardest

   为了通过考试，他这几天都在拼命复习。 wèile tōngguò kǎoshì tā zhè jǐtiān dōu zài pīnmìng fùxí — To pass the exam, he's been studying like crazy these days.

4. to spell (words)

   小朋友在课堂上练习拼单词。 xiǎopéngyǒu zài kètáng shàng liànxí pīn dāncí — The children are practicing spelling words in class.
