拨 — bō

1. to push aside; to move with the hand/foot/a stick; to poke (a fire); to turn round

   他用手把树枝拨到一边。 tāyòng shǒubǎ shùzhī bōdào yībiān — He pushed the branch to one side with his hand.

2. to dial (a number)

   请拨这个号码联系客户服务。 qǐngbō zhège hàomǎ liánxì kèhùfúwù — Please dial this number to contact customer service.

3. to allocate; to set aside (money, resources)

   公司拨了五百万用于研发新产品。 gōngsī bō le wǔbǎiwàn yòngyú yánfā xīn chǎnpǐn — The company allocated five million for R&D of the new product.

4. to pluck (a string instrument)

   他用拇指拨吉他的弦。 tāyòng mǔzhǐ bō jítā de xián — He plucked the guitar string with his thumb.
