拐 — guǎi

1. to turn (a corner, to change direction)

   前面路口往右拐。 qiánmiàn lùkǒu wǎngyòu guǎi — Turn right at the intersection ahead.

2. to kidnap; to abduct (someone)

   那个小孩被人拐走了，警方正在调查。 nàge xiǎohái bèi rén guǎizǒu le jǐngfāng zhèngzài diàochá — That child was abducted; the police are investigating.

3. to swindle; to trick someone into giving money or goods; to misappropriate

   别被他的话拐了，他其实想要骗你的钱。 bié bèi tā dehuà guǎi le tā qíshí xiǎngyào piàn nǐ de qián — Don't be fooled by his words; he actually wants to swindle your money.

4. the numeral seven used as a substitute for 七 (colloquial/older usage)

   有时老字号的标牌上会把七写成拐。 yǒushí lǎozìhào de biāopái shànghuì bǎ qī xiěchéng guǎi — Some old shop signs write the numeral seven using the character guai (拐).
