抵抗 — dǐkàng

1. to resist; to oppose (an attack, pressure, temptation, etc.)

   他努力抵抗诱惑，没有买那件昂贵的衣服。 tā nǔlì dǐkàng yòuhuò méiyǒu mǎi nàjiàn ángguì de yīfú — He tried hard to resist temptation and didn't buy that expensive piece of clothing.

2. resistance; opposition (the act or state of resisting)

   该组织在历史上对外来统治进行了顽强的抵抗。 gāi zǔzhī zàilìshǐshàng duìwài lái tǒngzhì jìnxíng le wánqiáng de dǐkàng — The organization mounted staunch resistance to foreign rule in history.
