抬头 — táitóu

1. to raise one's head; to look up (literally)

   听见有人叫他的名字，他抬头看了看。 tīngjiàn yǒurén jiào tā de míngzì tā táitóu kàn le kàn — He raised his head to look when he heard someone call his name.

2. (figurative) to begin to emerge; to show signs of growth or improvement

   经过几个月的调整，公司的业绩终于开始抬头。 jīngguò jǐgè yuè de tiáozhěng gōngsī de yèjì zhōngyú kāishǐ táitóu — After several months of adjustments, the company's performance finally began to pick up.

3. account name; the heading or space for writing the name on checks, bills, etc. (commerce)

   请在支票的抬头处填写收款人的姓名。 qǐng zài zhīpiào de táitóu chù tiánxiě shōukuǎnrén de xìngmíng — Please fill in the payee's name in the payee field of the cheque.
