抠 — kōu

1. to dig/pick/scratch (with a finger or pointed object); to carve or cut at something

   别在墙上抠洞。 bié zài qiángshàng kōu dòng — Don't pick at holes in the wall.

2. to lift up (esp. the hem of a robe)

   古画中人物常用手抠衣襟。 gǔhuà zhōng rénwù chángyòng shǒu kōu yījīn — In ancient paintings, figures often lift their robes with a hand.

3. to be meticulous; to nitpick or pick over details

   别总抠细节，做事要看整体。 bié zǒng kōu xìjié zuòshì yào kàn zhěngtǐ — Don't always nitpick the details; look at the whole picture.

4. stingy; miserly

   他很抠，连请客都不愿意。 tā hěn kōu lián qǐngkè dōu bù yuànyì — He's stingy; he won't even treat others.
