1. to input (data); to enter into a system

2. to throw in; to drop (from the air) — e.g., supplies or objects

   救援飞机向受灾区域投放了紧急物资。 jiùyuánfēijī xiàng shòuzāi qūyù tóufàng le jǐnjí wùzī — The relief plane dropped emergency supplies over the disaster area.

3. to unload; to place goods (e.g., from a vehicle) onto the ground or dock

   货轮抵达港口后开始投放集装箱。 huòlún dǐdá gǎngkǒu hòu kāishǐ tóufàng jízhuāngxiāng — After the freighter arrived at the port, it began unloading containers.

4. to put into circulation (money, goods, advertisements, etc.)
