抓 — zhuā

1. to grab; to seize (hold of something or someone's body)

   他抓住了孩子的手。 tā zhuāzhù le háizi de shǒu — He grabbed the child's hand.

2. to catch (e.g. an animal, insect, or object)

   我抓到了一只蝴蝶。 wǒ zhuādào le yīzhī húdié — I caught a butterfly.

3. to arrest; to capture (by police)

   警察抓了那个小偷。 jǐngchá zhuā le nàge xiǎotōu — The police arrested that thief.

4. to snatch; to take quickly (often forcibly or suddenly)

   她的包被人从后面抓走了。 tā de bāobèi rén cóng hòumiàn zhuāzǒu le — Her bag was snatched from behind.

5. to scratch (with nails or claws); to claw

   猫把沙发抓坏了。 māo bǎ shāfā zhuā huài le — The cat scratched the sofa.
