1. to make a copy; to transcribe

   请把这份文件抄一份给我。 qǐng bǎ zhèfèn wénjiàn chāo yīfèn gěi wǒ — Please make a copy of this document for me.

2. to plagiarize; to copy someone else's work dishonestly

   他被指控在论文中抄别人的研究。 tā bèi zhǐkòng zài lùnwén zhōng chāo biérén de yánjiū — He was accused of plagiarizing others' research in his paper.

3. to search and seize; to confiscate (by authorities)

   警方抄走了涉嫌走私的货物作为证据。 jǐngfāng chāo zǒu le shèxián zǒusī de huòwù zuòwéi zhèngjù — The police confiscated the smuggled goods as evidence.

4. to raid; to make a quick incursion (e.g., by police or robbers)

   警察今天突然抄了一家赌场。 jǐngchá jīntiān tūrán chāo le yījiā dǔchǎng — The police suddenly raided a gambling den today.

5. to grab; to snatch

   他一个箭步冲上前把手机抄过来。 tā yígèjiànbù chōng shàngqián bǎ shǒujī chāoguòlái — He lunged forward and snatched the phone.
