1. to criticize; to find fault with

   老师批了他的作业，指出了很多错误。 lǎoshī pī le tā de zuòyè zhǐchū le hěnduō cuòwù — The teacher marked his homework and pointed out many mistakes.

2. to pass on (an order, message); to approve (and forward)

   经理已经把这个决定批给下属办公室了。 jīnglǐ yǐjīng bǎ zhège juédìng pīgěi xiàshǔ bàngōngshì le — The manager has already approved and passed this decision to the subordinate office.

3. to ascertain; to check; to examine

   他去批资料，确认数字是否正确。 tā qù pī zīliào quèrèn shùzì shìfǒu zhèngquè — He went to check the materials to confirm whether the figures were correct.

4. classifier for batches, lots; (a) group(s)

   这批货明天发出。 zhè pīhuò míngtiān fāchū — This batch of goods will be shipped tomorrow.

5. tier; a ranked group (e.g., tier for the ranking of universities and colleges)
