扯 — chě

1. to pull; to tug; to tear (by pulling)

   小孩使劲扯着妈妈的衣角不肯走。 xiǎohái shǐjìn chě zhe māmā de yījiǎo bùkěn zǒu — The child kept tugging at his mother's clothes and refused to leave.

2. (of cloth, thread etc.) to buy (by length)

   去布市扯两米布吧。 qù bùshì chě liǎngmǐ bù ba — Go to the fabric market and buy two metres of cloth.

3. to chat; to gossip; to talk casually

   他们在那儿扯得很开心。 tāmen zài nàér chě dé hěn kāixīn — They're having a good chat over there.

4. (colloquial, Taiwan) ridiculous; hokey; absurd

   那电影太扯了，完全不靠谱。 nà diànyǐng tài chě le wánquán bùkào pǔ — That movie is ridiculous — totally implausible.
