扭 — niǔ

1. to turn; to rotate; to twist (an object or one's body)

   把把手向右扭开。 bǎ bǎshǒu xiàng yòu niǔkāi — Turn the handle to the right.

2. to wring; to twist hard (to squeeze liquid out)

   把湿毛巾扭干再晾。 bǎ shī máojīn niǔ gàn zài liàng — Wring the wet towel dry before hanging it up.

3. to sprain (a joint); to twist (an ankle, wrist, etc.)

   他跑步时不小心把脚扭了。 tā pǎobù shí bùxiǎo xīn bǎ jiǎo niǔ le — He accidentally sprained his foot while running.

4. to swing one's hips; to gyrate (dance movement or coquettish gesture)

   她随着音乐扭着胯跳舞。 tā suízhe yīnyuè niǔ zhe kuà tiàowǔ — She gyrated her hips to the music.
